Mr. Stabler's Grade 5 Homeroom

Welcome to My Classroom

Please use the above viewlets to access general class information.

My name is Nick Stabler and I am very happy to have your child in my fifth grade class for the 2017-2018 school year. I have degrees in both history from the University of Calgary and elementary education from the University of Victoria. I have also completed my Masters in Education from the University of Lethbridge, in inclusive education and neuroscience. In my spare time, I enjoy the outdoors, snowboarding, and spending time with my family. I have a 3 year old and we are expecting another child in October.

We will have an exciting year ahead of us. I am framing many of our learning experiences around how our brains learn best. I have been taking neuroscience courses for a number of years as part of my M.Ed. program and it is fascinating how complex the human brain truly is. There are many myths about our brains and learning that we will uncover this year in our quest to optimize our learning!

I have a comprehensive class website that will have every resource needed to ensure the success of all students in the class this year. You will find assignments, textbooks for online viewing, a class calendar (you can subscribe to it for updates), and student portfolios. You will need to log in using your student's ID and password, which I can provide for you. The class website can be found at:

Additional class resources (typically documents that are personalized and are able to be edited by students and handed in online) are available at

Please keep in frequent contact with me throughout the year. My email is nstabler (, and is usually the fastest way to contact me. You can also phone the school to be directed to my phone (usually between 3:35 and 4:15) or my voicemail.

I'm looking forward to a great year! Get in touch and keep connected.
