Mr.Perry

My name is Dan Perry and I am very excited to be joining the grade five team at Muriel Clayton Middle School. I previously taught grade five at Beiseker Community School. I will be teaching all subjects except Phys. Ed. and Music.

While this is only my fourth year working as a teacher, I have experience in education adjacent fields. After finishing my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drama and working as an Artist in Residence with Quest Theatre for Young People, I taught English at the Weifang Engineering Vocational College in Qingzhou, Shandong province, China.

Upon returning to Canada in 2010, I started working as a Community Resource Worker with the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary. Upon completion of my Masters of Fine Arts specializing in Playwriting in 2013, I participated in an internship with the 52nd Street Project in New York where I made many friends I still keep in touch with. After returning to Calgary, I decided it was time to pursue my career as a teacher.

I completed my Bachelors of Education at the University of Calgary and worked as a program leader with TELUS Spark! This was one of the best decisions I ever made. While working on the education team, I had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students from across Alberta. I developed first-hand experiences with inquiry-based learning, designing purposeful educational tasks, short-term lesson planning, and the maker movement.

I am really looking forward to working with your children this year. We will be focusing on the Seven ‘C’s in my classroom: courage, collaboration, communication, commitment, creativity, compassion, and curiosity. These are qualities I value and will endeavour to cultivate in my students.

You can contact me by email at dperry or by calling the school at 403.948.2445.
